ABOUT

ABOUT

I am a London based signwriter and mural artist. My services include hand painted signs, murals and bespoke specialist paintwork. I studied Fine Art Painting at University and I have a broad understanding of all different paint applications. Whether it is highly detailed realist fine art work or painting a sign on a rough broken brick wall, I am able to find a way to make sure the end result is of the highest quality that will also allow maximum longevity. I have a detailed knowledge of colour, form and composition, that helps me a great deal in my approach to sign painting and the other services I can provide.

Sign writing and Mural work requires a detailed analysis of all the elements surrounding the job in question. Careful thinking about approach and execution, prior to application of paint, is crucial in order to achieve the desired effect. This is central to how I conduct all parts of my business.

Murals

My skills are wide ranging and cover most types of applications you can think of. Some examples of different styles of murals I can provide include: Abstract, Realism, Photorealism, Impressionism, Illustrative, trompe l’oeil, textured finish painting, decorative painted effects.

When I first approach a potential mural, I will assess the environment, surface and size of the proposed area to paint. I will then decide the best materials to suit the particular scenario to ensure the best quality and durability of the the final work.

Once a design is agreed for a proposed mural, the process of preparation and execution of the painting can happen in two different ways. If the mural is to be painted directly onto a wall, this must be executed on site. However, if the mural is going to be in an interior space, a canvas mural could be an option. This may be painted off site in my studio, which is often a more convenient way to execute the work. The finished canvas mural can then be pasted onto the proposed interior wall with a highly durable mural paste. This can be a very good option if painting on site for longer periods of time isn’t convenient.

In terms of pricing a mural, it is dependent on many factors. Time schedule, level of detail, technical approach, materials, conditions are to name a few. So I would recommend getting a very good idea of the kind of mural you are after. If possible, gather some images that are similar in style to the kind of painting you are after. The best possible scenario is if you have a finished design, as this will allow me to give you a very detailed quote and provide me with all I need to start painting. If you are in need of a design, I can provide you with this also, but this will be at an extra cost. So it is good to be as decisive as possible when considering a mural.

With all these different factors in mind, it’s best give me call or send an email if you have any ideas for a potential mural that you would like to discuss. I can then advise you what the best course of action would be in regards to arriving at the finished article.

Sign Painting

I paint signs in a variety of ways. Signs are very site specific and each job has it’s own individual things to consider. Whenever I first approach a potential sign, the size, colour, finish, the sign’s surroundings and overall longevity of the finished work are the main things I consider. The majority of the time it is best to paint on site, as the sign is usually best painted when all other logistical aspects of the sign are in place. If it is a smaller sign, for example and A-board or swing sign, this can be painted in my studio.

In regards to pricing a potential sign, it is best to give me a call or email. I can then get a detailed idea of what the work consists of. Images of a design and the site where the sign is to be painted is always very helpful. This allows me to understand the logistics of what is needed. If needed, I can advise you on colour, size and placement of the painted sign.

Reverse Glass Painting

The reverse glass technique consists of painting a design on the back of a sheet of glass. This is a very effective and slick looking type of sign. The sheen of the glass makes the signs surface uniform in terms of there being no physical texture viewing from the front. Gold leaf is often used in this process as it’s very reflective and gives a rich, eye catching aesthetic.

Gold Leaf

Gold leaf is used throughout the trade of sign making. It helps give an authentic traditional edge and can really help lift a signs appearance. It can be applied in a number of ways and holds up well against the weather. It is durable and retains its lustre very well over a long period of time.

Gold leaf can either be applied onto glass in a loose leaf format, or it can be applied to most other surfaces using gold size (glue) and transfer. If you would like a gold leaf sign feel free to give me a call or send an email with either a rough or detailed idea of what you are after. I can then advise you from there as to what the best solution would be.

Vinyl Signs

I can also provide vinyl sign work. Whilst I would usually recommend to have a sign painted rather than a vinyl version, there are some scenarios where a painted sign isn’t as practical. Under some circumstances, usually involving window signage, it may prove to be a better option to use vinyl. This is something I can advise you on after getting an idea of the sort of sign you are after.

Bespoke Paintwork

Most surfaces can be painted on. If you have an idea that doesn’t necessarily fit within the confines of murals or signs, feel free to get in contact and we can discuss a possible solution. Examples of this kind of work could be; painting on furniture or a design painted on a wooden floor. I am a creative person and can adapt my skills/knowledge of paint, colour and composition to more unconventional ideas.
