ABOUT

ABOUT

I am a London based sign painter and mural artist. I studied Fine Art painting at University and have a broad understanding of a variety of paint applications. Whether it’s a detailed realist mural or a painted sign on a rough brick wall, I aim to find a way of making sure the end result is of the best quality possible. Longevity and making sure your signs or murals stand the test of time is always considered during the process. I have a detailed knowledge of colour, form and composition, which I feel helps in my approach to all the services I provide.

Sign writing and mural painting are practices that have been around for a generations. As a result, there are many different ways of approaching these traditional crafts. My approach is to use what I have learnt from the history of sign or mural artists along with what I have learnt over the years. Thinking outside the box and finding creative ways of applying my knowledge to projects/commissions is a continual goal. Developing painting techniques is a lifelong pursuit and I’m always learning new mediums to help broaden my understanding.

Sign Painting and mural work requires a close analysis of all the elements surrounding the job in question. Careful thinking about approach and execution, prior to application of paint, is necessary to achieve the desired effect. There is almost always a unique set of circumstances for every project I’ve done to date. So being as dynamic and adaptable as I can be is something that I strive for.

I am always interested in any type of sign or mural work and I’m open to working across the UK or Internationally if required. So please feel free to call or email if you have a project in mind you’d like to discuss and we can figure it all out.
Thanks for looking, Alex

SERVICES

SERVICES

Sign Painting
I paint signs in a variety of ways and each job has it’s own individual things to consider. Whenever I first approach a potential sign, the size, colour, finish, surroundings and overall longevity of the finished work are the main things I consider. The majority of the time signs are painted on site, but if it’s a smaller sign, for example an A-board or swing sign, this can be painted in my studio.
In regards to pricing a potential job, it is best to give me a call or email. Images of a design and photos of the site where it is going to be painted are always very helpful. From there I can advise you on the best way to proceed and provide you with a quote.

Murals
My skills are wide ranging and cover most types of applications you can think of. Some examples of different styles of murals include: Abstract, Realism, Photorealism, Impressionism, Illustrative, trompe l’oeil.
When I approach a potential mural, I assess the environment, surface and size of the proposed area to paint. I will then decide on the best materials to use for that particular scenario to ensure maximum quality and durability of the final work.
In terms of pricing a mural, it is dependent on many factors. Time schedule, level of detail, technical approach, materials, structural conditions are to name a few. So I would recommend getting a very good idea of the kind of mural you are after. If possible, gather some images that are similar in style to the kind of painting you are after. The best possible scenario is if you have a finished design, as this will allow me to give you a detailed quote and provide me with all I need to start painting. If you would like me to supply a design, I would be happy to do so, but this will be at an extra cost. So it is good to be as decisive as possible when considering a mural.
With all these factors in mind, it’s best to give me a call or send an email if you have any ideas that you would like to discuss. I can then advise you what the best course of action in regards to arriving at the finished article.

Reverse Glass Painting
The reverse glass technique consists of painting a design on the back of a pane of glass. This is a very effective and slick looking type of sign. Gold leaf is often used in this process as it’s very reflective and gives an opulent, eye catching aesthetic. This is a process that I often carry out in my studio, if it’s a private commission. I also often paint these signs on shop or restaurant windows to help catch the eye of the general public and accentuate a hand crafted aesthetic.
Gold Leaf
Gold leaf is used throughout the trade of sign making. It helps give an authentic traditional edge and can really help lift a signs appearance.
It can either be used on glass in a loose leaf format, or applied to most other surfaces using gold size (glue) and transfer.

Bespoke Paintwork
Most surfaces can be painted on. If you have an idea that doesn’t necessarily fit within the confines of murals or signs, feel free to get in contact and we can discuss a possible solution. Examples of this kind of work could be; painting on furniture or a design painted on a wooden floor. I am a creative person and can adapt my skills/knowledge of paint, colour and composition to more unconventional ideas.
